Assessment for Adults

Acorn Autism Specialists
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Adult Assessment 18 years and over
Our diagnostic assessment consists of:
- A highly qualified, experienced Multi-Disciplinary Team (Clinical Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist) with you throughout the whole assessment
- Initial telephone discussion with key clinician, who will then become your allocated Key Person to support you during the diagnostic process and be your main contact throughout
- Structured face-to-face ADOS-2 observation at our Kelvedon clinic, conducted by two clinicians
- A diagnostic interview using the most clinically appropriate instrument for your circumstances — either the ACIA, ADI-R, or DISCO, as accredited by the National Autistic Society. Delivered on the same day at our clinic (same-day pathway) or online via secure video call at a separate time (split pathway)
- A detailed developmental history, taken as part of your diagnostic interview. An informant — a family member or close friend who knows you well, ideally from earlier in your life — is preferred and warmly encouraged. Because the split pathway interview takes place online, your informant can join from anywhere, with no need to travel
- Review of available professional reports
- Multi-disciplinary clinical discussion to discuss comorbidity and differential diagnosis
- A highly detailed person-centred report containing informed and useful recommendations to support children and adults to achieve their full potential towards achieving well-being and success
- Timely assessment and informed of outcome within 24 hours
- Feedback meeting with you to go through report and recommendations
- Finalisation of the diagnostic report
- Two assessment pathways are available for adults. Both are fully NICE compliant and include a complete MDT discussion before any outcome is reached. The split pathway is particularly popular with adults, offering a shorter clinic visit and an online interview that can be joined by an informant from anywhere in the country
Compare our two pathways
We use the best available diagnostic instruments to do our assessment and assessments will always be carried out by two clinicians and the ADOS-2 will always be completed face to face.
The fee for a diagnostic assessment for an adult is £2,150
