About Acorn Autism Specialists

> We provide private Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) assessments for children (three years and over), young people and adults.

> We offer a gentle, personal approach and keep the diagnostic process relaxed and calm for you.

> We understand how important the outcome is for the person and their family.

> For children and adolescents, we use the "Gold standard" assessment tools the ADOS-2, and ADI-R.

> For adults, we use the "Gold standard" assessment tools ADOS-2, and a diagnostic interview, selected depending on individual circumstances, which can be either the ACIA, ADI-R or DISCO, as accredited by the National Autistic Society.

> All assessment instruments are comprehensive and meet recommended clinical guidelines set by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence for children and for adults.

> We will support you throughout the diagnostic journey with your own designated key clinician as your point of contact.

> Our approach is rigorous, we pride ourselves in using the best available diagnostic instruments – the entire assessment process will always be carried out by two clinicians from Clinical Psychology, and Speech and Language Therapy.

The autism diagnostic assessment is a highly specialist assessment. There are no short-cuts. A less robust assessment, either online or with a sole professional, is more likely to result in mis-diagnoses or an incorrect diagnosis.

Whether the outcome is you, or your child, receiving a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder or confirmation that you, or your child, do not meet diagnostic criteria for ASD, we aim to help you develop a better understanding for you, or your child.

A Different Perspective.

“If I could snap my fingers and be non-autistic, I would not. Autism is part of what I am.”
